I will post about yesterday in a little bit, I had taken some photos but I don't have access to them at this moment.

So far it has been a nice clear day out. I haven't seen any significant cloud cover.

The current high pressure system over the mid states certainly accounts for the nice weather we are having today. The low over Alberta/Saskatchewan really concerns me as it may turn into a clipper system that will follow the jetstream to our area, possibly by this weekend or early next week.

Here you can see the patterns emerging of clear skies, moderate wind following that jetstream.The low pressure systems we saw previously are dying out and have left some precipitation/cloud cover over eastern US.

Today there was a lot of wet snow, but it warmed up during the day causing most of the snow to melt.

March 10, getting tired of snow.

I'm so jealous of my B.C. family and friends, I want to see plants and stuff sprout now too! Ready for spring.

 

Here is a photo looking to the West from my apartment at about 8:30am. You can see stratus clouds, it is now overcast and snowing/raining lightly.

Cool weather map from weather.com, shows those low pressure systems we talked about yesterday just moving along. There is a neat pattern of warm and cold air fronts. It appears as though there is a continental polar airmass moving down from the north bringing a cold front over Wisconsin. We have warm air, possibly maritime tropic moving up from the south, creating moisture over Iowa, and Illinois (I think, forgive my Canadian ignorance, I swear I'm learning all the state names!).

because of that high pressure system I am going to predict that the next few days will include more precipitation and near freezing temperatures, but by mid week it should pick up with clearer skies and higher temperatures.

 You can see a divide between wind direction in Wisconsin and Michigan, indicating that cold front.

 The low pressure system in our area can be seen in that trough, but this also indicates that possibly that high pressure system may move our way too.

 lots of water vapor in mid-eastern United States. There also exists a possibility that the moisture over Alberta may find its way to us as well.

March 9

It was snowing when I woke up today. Yesterday was fairly nice, we had cirrus clouds that grew heavier as the day progressed.

On the surface map you can see some low pressure systems over the midwest and Kansas. One in particular is very strong as you can see by the jetstream and wind map.

I predict that we can expect similar temperatures and snow for tomorrow.

March 7

It was pretty nice out today. Very chilly, but the sun took the edge off. No precipitation, the sky was fairly clear.

Here is an image taken this morning around 6:30am. You can see some fog in the distance. Although hard to see, the clouds are hazy, possibly cirrus clouds.

Here is a photo from about 11am facing west; plenty of cirrus clouds, indicating cool temperatures and no precipitation.

Here is today's surface map. You can see the low pressure systems being manipulated by the rockies. Our area looks like it will remain clear for another day at least. This weekend the low pressure systems may bring some precipitation to our area.

Jetstream for friday. We learned in class that this upward bulge is called an omega high, representing the greek symbol omega, which indicates good weather.

 Clear cloud cover in our area, you can see the winds directed north over Minnesota, as well as the after cloud cover to the east following winter storm Saturn.

There is a lot of moisture to the west, moist air from the pacific is being caught up on the rockies.

March 6

Today was nice. It started out overcast with stratus clouds, then by about 9:40am the clouds broke up into altostratus clouds. I saw no precipitation and an increase in temperature.

 All sorts of craziness here. You can see Winter Storm Saturn heading out into the Atlantic. There is a lot of moisture buildup along the west coast, as you can see below. I predict that tomorrow will be clear and fairly decent, yet in the next few days we may receive precipitation.

March 5 Saturn

I like how they name winter storms now, makes them feel a little more thrilling; the one we had today was called Saturn.

It is 7pm, and it is lightly snowing. Earlier in the day we had a lot of snow, my guess is around 6 inches, enough to make travel scary in my car at least.

We saw stratus clouds in abundance today (low lying ugly snow or rain clouds).

 You can see the low pressure system associated with winter storm Saturn moving to the east and gaining moisture.  We have several high pressure systems incoming, which explains why the pressure is increasing. Hopefully we shall see some nicer days and warmer temperatures.

The jetstream has become pretty normal now going west to east.
