March 31st

Today was odd, we had overcast skies this morning with light precipitation, which turned into a light snow in the afternoon. The snow only lasted an hour or two max and then by late afternoon it was nice and sunny again.

Stats as of 10:30pm ( I have a screenshot from earlier on my phone)
Temperature: 28 F
Dewpoint:12 F
Humidity: 49%
Pressure: 1015.2mb
Wind: 11mph WNW

The surface map is active today, we are still being affected by that low pressure system to the northeast, but it looks like it will be pulling that high pressure system to the northwest.

March 30 - Spring showers came just in time!

I don't think I've ever been so happy to see rain in my whole life! Yesterday was nice and clear again, today it rained, like I thought it would.

In a bit I will post some cool pictures from yesterday. We went to Marshfield for an early easter, and there was a nice "god sky" (sun shines though the clouds). You could definitely see that there was unstability in the atmosphere as the night approached, many layers of different clouds.

Today was overcast, raining pretty hard this morning then slowing down to a drizzle.

Temperature: 41°F
Dewpoint: 40°F
Humidity: 100%
Wind:  4mph W
Pressure: 1010.9 mb

As you can see by the surface map today we have some precipitation approaching due to the low pressure system moving in from the north. That system will bring in cooler temperatures and possibly snow if the moisture remains in air.

Skew-T plot from Minneapolis, MN. Shows how its raining there.

March 28

Today was very nice, it started out a little chilly with temperatures around 23°F this morning (7am) but became much warmer with temperatures around 46°F in the afternoon (3pm). The cloud coverage was sparse, we had a lot of open skies, with a few cirrus clouds.

Temperature: 41°F
Dewpoint: 14°F
Humidity: 33%
Wind: Calm
Pressure: 1026.4 mb

On the surface map you can again see the high pressure system that we have in our area. There is a lot of low pressure activity going on in the mid states, we can expect the low pressure system near texas to make is way up to us via the jetstream. My prediction is that the low pressure system there will bring us precipitation by saturday, hopefully only rain though!

Here you can see the weather.unisys.com surface map data, our area has calm winds and clear skies.
This map shows the water vapor building off the west coast, from a maritime tropical air mass, this may bring us more precipitation if it makes it past the rockies.

March 27

Today was really great! loved it. we have some clouds present, mainly alto cirrus and alto stratus clouds associated with the high pressure system.

Temperature: 40°F
Dewpoint:14°F
Wind: WNW 4mph
Humidity: 34%
Pressure: 1027.1 mb
As you can see by the surface map we have a high pressure system in the area, contributing to our good weather.
There is some moisture in the south west of the country along with a low pressure system that may make its way over to us by the weekend bringing precipitation.

March 26

Temperature: 38°F
Dewpoint: 18°F
Wind: Calm
Humidity: 44%
Pressure 1024.6 mb

Today is not bad, had some awesome cloud formations midday. At this time there is an overcast sky. The flag across the street is pretty dead.

Looks like we have more nice weather on the way. Multiple high pressure systems moving in our direction over the next few days.
Taken around 11:30am this picture shows some cool clouds we had this morning. Altocumulus and either cumulus humilis or cumulus congestus clouds.

March 25

Today was nice, clear skies mostly and it felt warm. yesterday was overcast, most likely due to the low pressure system that moved through more to the south, thankfully we were not hit by that.

Temperature: 27 F
Dewpoint: 21 F
Humidity 82%
Pressure: 1022.4 mb
Wind: 0mph

Not much activity in Wisconsin lately. looks like we will have more high pressure in the next day or so. the possibility of bad weather may arise later in the week.

Picture taken around 8pm, looks like we have cumulo stratus clouds moving through.

March 23

I went out today, it was nice, clear, and a decent temperature. No precipitation.

Temperature: 35°F
Dewpoint: 19°F
Humidity: 51%
Pressure: 1019.4 mb
Wind: 2mph NNW

As you can see there is a high pressure system near wisconsin, with plenty of low systems to the south west. The mid to low eastern states may encounter an issue with those low systems but I would wager a guess that it won't be an issue here in wisconsin. My prediction stands that we shall have fair weather tomorrow, however that may change as the next week progresses.

March 21 Second day of spring

Well it sure feels like the second day of spring. We had very nice open clear weather. it wasn't warm but it finally felt as though I can put away the winter coat and gloves.

Sorry for posting late it is 7:30pm

Temperature: 21°F
Dewpoint: 10°F
Humidity: 64%
Pressure:  1018.5mb lower pressure than yesterday.
Wind: 2mph WNW

I didn't see much clouds today, I was kinda busy though and didnt get a chance to really look or take pictures.

Surface map:
You can see that high pressure system still hovering in our area, tomorrow we shall recieve fair weather again, maybe some more cloud cover. There seems to be a strong low over Alberta with heavy moisture, the jetstream suggests that we may possibly be hit by that low pressure system in the coming days. I predict that tomorrow and possibly the next day will be clear.

March 19

Yesterday it was overcast and snowed a lot. Today it snowed in the morning, but by 10 am it was nice and clear, very windy.

Temperature: 22°F
Dewpoint: 8°F
Humidity: 58%
Wind: 8mph WNW
Pressure: 1017.8mb

On today's surface map you can see a lot going on. There is a strong low pressure system to the North East, causing high winds from the NW, as seen by the tigher isolines. The jetstream may move that system to the east, the low in the mid states may prove a problem, but likely the high pressure system drawn in by the current low will bring a few days of clear weather.

Some cirrostratus clouds forming to the north, flag is pointed east, so wind is blowing from the west.
Altrocumulus and cirrostratus clouds forming to the SW.
Taken 30 minutes later from above pictures. Altocumulus clouds. These clouds usually represent moisture at upper levels, sometimes coming ahead of larger systems, if the clouds linger there might be unstable weather ahead.
Lots of moisture on the west coast, we'll see what it means for us when it passes the Rockies.
Here you can see the wind direction moving around that low pressure system to the NE.

March 17 St. Patrick's day is white this year.

Its a nice, slightly windy day  today. we had no clouds in the morning, but now at 3:24pm we have some cirrus clouds, predominately in the North East direction. The flag at Gordy's across the street from work is blowing to the West (coming from the east).

Temperature: 26°F
Dewpoint: 6°F
Humidity: 47%
Pressure: 1021.2 mb
Wind: 5mph WSW

Cirrostratus
Cirrocumulus Undualtus
These Cirrus clouds indicate a large amount of moisture approaching, according to my field guide these clouds mean you should watch the sky for approaching weather systems that may be unstable.

Update:

Here is an image from around 7pm on March 17, cumulus and cirrus clouds indicate an increase of moisture. This image is to the west.

On the surface map you can see why today had nice weather, due to the high pressure system to the North East, which explains why the flag was blowing from the east. The low system(s) to the west may approach overnight causing instability.

There is a great amount of moisture over the mid west states, which will cause precipitation for us in Wisconsin tomorrow.

Weather stations to our west, in the Dakotas, are experiencing moderate snow fall, and their wind path seems to be headed our direction. You can also see that the Eau Claire area has clear skies, with cloud cover approaching.

March 16

Temperature: 23°F
Dewpoint: 16°F
Wind: 2 mph W NW
Humidity: 74%
Pressure: 1019.8 mb

Today started with some snow, but as of 11:30, here is an image of the sky to the NW:

The Stratocumulus clouds are breaking up as the high pressure system to the NW is moving in bringing cooler temperatures tomorrow with the continental polar air mass. The clouds are the end result of the system we had yesterday. The warm air surrounding the low to the east may bring a warm front around, causing precipition soon.

March 15

 Snow... again...

It is currently 8:37am, it is snowing lightly, with 2-5 inches expected, then freezing rain. Cloud coverage is overcast. I was supposed to go to crystal cave in geo 304 today, we'll see if that pans out. New cloud pictures will be shown later if the overcast skies go away.

Temperature: 30°F
Dewpoint: 29°F
Wind: 3pm NE
Humidity: 100%
Pressure:

There is a cold air mass moving down from the north, creating the snow and freezing conditions we see, along with low pressure systems coming from the west. the next few days may possibly suck. Today sucks.
Jet stream for friday, you can see the path of the storm. It is bringing plenty of warm air up to the east coast as well, which may mix with the current lows and cold air front to make some nasty weather on the coast.
water vapor map, shows the amount of moisture in our area, looks like we will recieve more precipitation soon.
Our current conditions, looks like more snow.

Clouds from March 12

These pictures are from mid day on Tuesday. It was a little chilly on tuesday, if I recall there was some precipitation in the morning. The pictures were taken in succession in the Festival parking lot.
Looking south.
Looking north.
Looking east.
